Luís Torres (Lisboa, 1978)
Frequenta a Escola António Arroio, Faculdade de Arquitectura de Lisboa e termina o curso de joalharia no Ar.co que lhe permite ingressar no Mestrado de Joalharia da London Metropolitan University em Londres.
Realiza inúmeros cursos e workshops, tanto nacionais como internacionais, com os mais variados artistas de renome como: Pilar Andaluz, Francisco Tropa, Manuel Vilhena, Kadri Mälk ou Fausto Maria Franchi, para nomear apenas alguns.
Participa em diversas exposições colectivas e individuais em Portugal e no estrangeiro como por exemplo na Mostra de Jovens Criadores 96 na Cordoaria Nacional em Lisboa, Medalhas Anti-guerra na Velvet da Vinci Gallery em São Francisco, ''Heal'' na msdm Shop em Londres e na Galeria Articula em Lisboa, ''Chronophone'' no Centro Cultural do Cartaxo, PIN Anonimum na Experimenta Design '11 em Lisboa ou ainda em ''40 Jóias'' Celebração de 40 Anos do Ar.Co na Galeria Tereza Seabra em Lisboa.
Comecei a fazer joalharia como um conceito, não como um ofício, embora o meu trabalho fosse feito com as técnicas tradicionais, a peça final na maioria das vezes não era usável.
O importante é ter em conta o corpo e um público - relacionado com o conceito, tema ou história da peça. Os materiais e as habilidades artesanais não são o mais importante para mim, porque o que eu realmente quero alcançar é a integridade da peça; algo a ser estimado como resultado de precioso.
A maior parte do meu trabalho está relacionado com sentimentos e saudade, de alguém ou de alguma coisa. Este tipo de assuntos sempre me interessou devido ao seu lado pessoal, as pessoas hoje em dia normalmente não mostram os seus sentimentos ou estão demasiado ocupadas para o fazer, por isso tento sempre fazer algo que alguém possa identificar como uma boa "recordação" do seu estado de espírito.

Attends the António Arroio School, Faculty of Architecture in Lisbon, and completed the jewellery course at Ar.co, which allowed him to enter the Master of Jewellery at London Metropolitan University in London.
Has attended numerous courses and workshops, both nationally and internationally, with a wide range of renowned artists such as Pilar Andaluz, Francisco Tropa, Manuel Vilhena, Kadri Mälk and Fausto Maria Franchi, to name but a few.
Participates in several group and solo exhibitions in Portugal and abroad, such as the Young Creators Exhibition ‘96 at the Cordoaria Nacional in Lisbon, Anti-War Medals at the Velvet da Vinci Gallery in San Francisco, ''Heal'' at the msdm Shop in London and at the Articula Gallery in Lisbon, ''Chronophone'' at the Cartaxo Cultural Centre, PIN Anonimum at Experimenta Design '11 in Lisbon or ''40 Jewels'' celebrating 40 years of Ar. Co at the Tereza Seabra Gallery in Lisbon.
I’ve started doing jewellery as a concept, not as a craft, even though that my work was made with the traditional techniques, the final piece most of the times wasn’t wearable.
The important thing is to consider the body, and an audience – related to the concept, theme or story of the piece. The materials and craft skills aren’t the most important for me because what I really want to achieve is the integrity of the piece; something to be held in high esteem as a result of preciousness.
Most of my work is related with feelings and longing, of someone or something. This kind of subjects always interested me because of the personal side of it, people nowadays usually don’t show their feelings or they are too busy to do that, so I always try to do something that someone might identify as a good “souvenir” for their state of mind.
